Instagram Is Testing a Feature to Show Users How Much Time They’re Spending in the App
Are you an #Instaddict?
Instagram is testing a new feature that will show users how much they’re addicted to the app. In short, users will be able to see how much time they’ve spent on the app, in a wider effort from the tech giants to get people to look up from their phones.
The new feature was first discovered by Jane Manchun Wong, a computer scientist with a record of figuring out prevalent apps to reveal upcoming features.
Wong delved around in Instagram’s code and discovered a feature apparently referred to internally as "time spent." This is apparently pictured on the application as a sidebar feature called "Usage insights."
There’s no further detail on what the "User Insights" feature will actually show, similar to your overall time spent on Instagram, or whether it just demonstrates a limited time period of a month or a day.
The new feature follows Google announcing the time management controls for Android, with a new dashboard, which will allow the users to set the amount of time they want to spend on each app. When they use their allotted time, the app will turn out grey on their mobile screen.
So, now be prepared to be ashamed for Instagram addiction!
